No doubt, we have seen how the application has matured in an impressive way since its inception, but at the moment, it lacks much to improve, as it consumes a lot of RAM and therefore, the performance of our mobile phone drastically decreases; something unacceptable today. Now, the social network giant Facebook is developing a new feature that will bring all its users back to status updates. The social network giant Facebook wants to make the news feed a little more interesting. The iOS app now uses photos in portrait mode to create 3D images. This goes for iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X and iPhone XS, however, the social network giant Facebook has ensured that soon it will add more devices. Moreover, the new “3D photo” can be viewed on your computer or other mobile devices. It works like this: you open the app on iOS, tap the new “3D Photo” option in the status field, select a photo in portrait mode, and it will be converted to gain three-dimensional effect. This will be available for all compatible smartphones in the coming weeks. The new 3D photo feature of the social network giant Facebook can be viewed on any platform: desktop, mobile, even in virtual reality headsets such as Oculus Go and Oculus Rift. You can touch/click on the image, or move your head simply to see the depth of the photo.
Facebook uses dual iPhone camera for the parallax effect
As the well-known media platform, TechCrunch explains that the 3D photo is created with the images captured by the iPhone’s dual camera. They have subtle differences that allow you to recreate what is behind the photographed object, generating the parallax effect.
For best results, the social network giant Facebook recommends that it photograph the subject, person or animal about 1m away. The algorithm can better separate the layers if the background has different colors. It can be confused with transparent or bright objects such as glass or plastic.
