Has Saul Goodman Killed Anyone?

The answer is, no, Saul Goodman has not killed anyone. Not directly, at least. He’s certainly caused the deaths of some people through his own actions, and he’s been privy to others’ plans of murder, but he’s never actually killed anyone himself. That being said, here’s a quick list of people whose deaths he played a part in:

Chuck McGill

Chuck killed himself at the end of season 3 of Better Call Saul by kicking down his Coleman lamp and burning the entire house down. The reason? Jimmy and Kim exposed his mental illness in a court hearing and caused him to lose all credibility in the legal world, and Jimmy also got his insurance canceled, which led to Howard cutting him out of HHM. It’s important to note that Chuck himself also cut all ties with Jimmy by saying that he never really mattered all that much to him when Jimmy tried to make amends, and this led to his illness getting worse and eventually, his death. However, by that point, the rift between Chuck and Jimmy was already irreparable, and that chain of events ultimately led to Chuck’s suicide.

Howard Hamlin

In Better Call Saul’s final season, Jimmy and Kim cook up a plan to ruin Howard’s reputation. Their plan works, though Howard knows they’re behind it and he goes to their apartment to confront them. However, Lalo Salamanca shows up looking for Jimmy, and he kills Howard just because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Walt’s Victims in Breaking Bad

Throughout the course of Breaking Bad, it can be argued that Saul essentially helped Walt with all of his murder plans as well. In the final season of Better Call Saul, the events of Breaking Bad are re-contextualized to imply that if Saul hadn’t chosen to look up Walt (against the advice of Mike, no less), Heisenberg wouldn’t have become as notorious as he did. The deaths of Hank, Steve, Drew Sharp, and the prison inmates might not have happened. Brock certainly wouldn’t have been poisoned either, and Saul wouldn’t have been forced into hiding. His involvement in the deaths in Breaking Bad are a bit of a stretch, but it’s easy to point to Saul and say that he played a part in all of them. That’s all you need to know about whether Saul Goodman has ever killed anybody.
